Abstract

This contribution presents a series of paleographic reconstructions for the Pilmatué-Lower Agrio-Lower Centenario stratigraphic interval, based on the integration of a large dataset covering from the Andean sector to the eastern subsurface region. It also builds upon a large body of recently published literature describing different facies associations and depositional systems within the study interval. Additional long-term stacking patterns and key stratigraphic surfaces allowed identifying three main transgressiveregressive depositional sequences within the unit that are tied to biostratigraphic and absolute ages. The resulting paleogeographic reconstructions presented in this work include characteristics and lateral relationships of different depositional systems, distribution and mixing mechanisms of siliciclastics and carbonates in the marine settings, as well as inferred oxygen levels of distal marine sediments based on geochemical proxies. The paleogeographic reconstructions also discriminate between maximum transgression and maximum regression of different sequences, allowing for direct estimation of shoreline migration overtime. These refined and updated paleogeographies can be used firstly to discuss and revise some previous paleogeographical models. Secondly, they can be incorporated to build more robust exploration or production models for conventional and unconventional (tight and shale) reservoirs that occur within the stratigraphic interval.
