Abstract

In the extra-Andean Northern Patagonia area of Piedra Parada, Chubut Province, new Eocene alkali basalts interbedded with calc-alkaline andesites and rhyolites of the Volcanic-Pyroclastic Río Chubut Medio Complex are described. The basalts are hawaiites and mugearites. The chemical signatures of these basalts have strong OIB like chemical affinities (La/Ba > 0,05 and Ba/Nb < 31) and relatively depleted isotopically signatures (ε Nd = +1,32 y 87Sr/86Sr = 0,70417).
